I'm talking modern composers.

edit: guess that kind of negates my "ever" part, eh?

Keep in mind I said one of the best, not the best.

Yes. I love the music that he made for Episode III, as well as previous star wars movies. While he has many good compositions, I think that his best would have to be Duel of Fates, which is originally played in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

Williams is good, his best piece was probably the theme he did for the Olympics, I believe it's called "Summon the Heroes" or something else, a really epic title none the less, I had the pleasure of playing that piece at a concert...it's pretty.

Danny Elfman did Batman Returns as well, which was much better music than his original score for Batman...but he also did Peewee's playhouse...which that right there deserves some recognition

My favorite would probably have to be Gremme Revell. He's not like Williams nor Elfman beings he doesn't really write in a classical form, but he did the theme to Idle Hands as well as a few other more "teeny bopper horror flicks".

I still favour most of Nobou Uematsu's orchestral music. But John William's has some pretty damn good music too.

Shostakovitch was hands down the best modern composer. If you want someone still living, I'd have to go with Craig Armstrong (thanks, Gally ). Now that I've heard him, all of those other soundtrack composers sound the same.

I had to play a piece by him for my spring concert in band. Holy shit that man wrote some insane stuff.

Best moddern IMHO; Tommy Tallirico. He did all the music for MP1, Advent Rising, and like 20 other games.

Here's a clip from Spielberg's latest movie, War of the Worlds.

http://www.dreamworksfansite.com/war..._clips_one.php

In it, we can hear a score by John William, and it is an obivious inspiration from one of his other movie. Try to guess which one.

I think its a nice touch.

I totally forgot about him. Moreso then John Williams, I listen to atleast 8 different tracks by him each day (mostly FF Music, but the piano/orchestral themes are, suffice it to say, very soothing and relaxing to the ears.

It is obvious that a George Luca/Spielburg movie is going to most likely feature John Williams, and a tim Burton Movie (batman etc.) will feature Elfman.

Neither are the best overall, but in this generation I think Williams is better. It isn't how many, it's the quality.

In it, we can hear a score by John William, and it is an obivious inspiration from one of his other movie. Try to guess which one.

I think its a nice touch.
To aswer my own question, it was the theme from Jaws.
