| a reformat should be free...if you dont have a reinstall disk then call the company u got yorucomp from (and also check inside your computer, theys ometimes stash them in there incase you bring your comp to a tech to be serviced)
also: on an old 98 i use to use i use to get the same error, but it was a virus (i could tell by the shaudy icon it used) u might wanna check and make sure thats not the case...

| Formatting might be the solution here, or a reinstall.
You could also try creating a new user profile in Safe Mode and seeing if the other one is corrupted, though I doubt it.* |

| Well, I would try a reinstall of Windows first. If this does not fix the problem ,however, then a reformat is the answer. It sounds pretty serious if you're getting errors in core Windows files. So, even though you don't want to, you very well may need to. Personally, I'd rather reformat than have a Windows that has problems and may decide to die on me when I actually need it. Another thing is that you could try is Linux .

| Yeah, but if you use linux, and then decide to go back to windows, it really ****s up (well mine did)
Reformat. You make it sound like a bad thing, but all in all its the best thing you can do.

| explorer.exe is the protocol that runs your taskbar. Windows Explorer is a browser for your local machine.

| explorer.exe is the same as the program that browses your machine (Windows Explorer).
Before you run and reformat, try deleting your TEMP files. You might just have too many in there. That can cause this problem, because Windows needs to write files to the temp files directory while it's operating, and if that directory has too many temp files, it cannot write to the directory, and it freaks out.
Try doing these basic maintenance actions before going more drastic:
-- Delete all temp files (c:\windows\temp\*.tmp, or on XP C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp)
-- Delete temporary internet files (c:\windows\temporary internet files\*.*, or on XP C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files)
-- If you use I.E., click on Tools, Internet Options, Delete Files, select "delete all off-line content", click OK
-- Click on Start, Programs, Accessories, Systems Tools, Disk Cleanup
-- Download AdAware, check for updates, run it and remove whatever it finds
-- Download Diskeeper and defrag
-- Download, update and turn on SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard (or your spyware removal tool of choice). |

| Switch to safer P2P programs and run Spybot when you need to.

| That is why you either run Mozilla Firefox, or a proxy server off your IE connection.
