Video Card

Hey, I have a Compaq Presario 5000...
These are my specs:
Mouse: Cicero CI-OPT
Mousepad: None
Mouse skatez:
Storage: 120 Gig
Headphones: Plantronics .Audio 90 Stereo
Monitor: 17" Compaq 171FS
CPU: Intel Celeron 667MHz
Memory: 384 MB
Graphic Card: Integrated Direct AGP Graphics
Soundcard:
Connection: Cable
Motherboard:

I can't find out the other missing things because I just plainly don't know how...anyways onto the question...I upgraded this thing a bit from how it came stock, but I was wondering...can I upgrade the video card in this thing?
I heard that because the video card was intergrated you can't upgrade it but I was wondering if it's true...also, can you tell me what upgrades I should get for this comp...I mostly play Counter-Strike, FPS...but I know I can't play CS Source on here which really sucks...whats a cheap place to get a comp that can easily run cs souce?(I live in can so a can site with can prices would be helpful)

thnks

Now do we really need to know what kind of mouse you use to give you an answer....

Ok, it really depends. You can get a PCI video card for sure, but if your motherboard has an AGP slot, that's a good thing too. I'll tell you right now though, you need to find out if the AGP slot (If it's there) is 2x, 4x, 4x/8x, or 8x. If you run a 4x card in a 2x slot, or an 8x card in a 4x slot....or mix them in any way, really (other than putting a 4x card in an 8x slot, they ARE backwards compatible), you will hit some stability issues when trying to run hard hitting graphics such as your CS.

I didn't say that he could.

I don't believe it runs on a DX7 card, either. Whether the box says it or not...I used to have the top of the line when DX7 was good, and just recently upgraded it. Those cards don't have the pixel shaders required.

I wouldn't reconmend a PCI graphics card though for that PC. If I were you I would try my best to get a new PC with an AGP slot first. The PCI graphics cards arn't good at all, and your CPU will just really bottleneck your gaming anyway.

I have:
ATI Radeon 9100 Pro 128MB PCI
768 MB PC2100 RAM
2.2GHZ P4 CPU

And will EVERY setting at low in CS, and more tweaks... I range from 30-100 FPS.(30 when I actually need the FPS)

dont waste your money on a new graphics card is what risen is saying. That machine blows, go save some more money, go buy an amd processor and a new motherboard, and possibly new ram if its not ddr, and start over with a new machine. That way you CAN get an AGP graphics card that will run the next gen games.

Save money, buy cheap HP with 512 mb RAM and semi-high CPU and high harddrive, (I found HPs cheap in most stores) and upgrade Vid card with something good. and buy another stick of 512 RAM LATEr.

You'll be set for gaming
