| A ? for Static Ok, church is starting to get to me and i dont know what to beleive anymore but the main thing that pops up in my mind when it comes to religion is music, and static, as me and you like a lot of the same stuff, which band would you choose? Dimmu Borgir or Cradle of Filth?
The reason im asking this is because i like the styles Dimmu and Cradle have in their music and i dont know a lot about either band except Dimmu is all-out-in-the-open satanic and in my mind Cradle's music is just eerie, or goth as some call it and i just dont feel comfortable anymore with Dimmu in my CD case and i want a CD to listen to witht hat certain style. ive recently gotten realy into Cradle by listening to some of their stuff and watching videos at diferent websites, but this is my thing:
if you are trying to appeal to others in the religious world by semi-limiting the music you have and listen to, what would you rather have? Dimmu or Cradle?
This might sound weird to you guys but i let a friend borrow a Dimmu Cd and he showed it to some people and some started calling my satanic and i dont want that. i think i would have different results from Cradle, but heres my main question: is cradle goth or satanic?

| Cradle of Filth are a mainstream (ish) version of black metal. I wouldn't really call them goth.

| I honestly don't know...because I've never been in such a situations. My parents have never given a shit as to what I listen to. People seem to be more offended by cradle of filth, than Dimmu Borgir though...for some reason.
-edit
Religion should always be a choice. It's simply something that your parent's CAN'T force upon you. They can try, but you believe what you believe. My advice: Be persistant...and don't give in. If you truly want to give into church and religion...by all means go for it, but only if you want to. Don't let people push you into believing something you don't believe in.

| Back when I was younger and getting into the rock and metal scene I got a Rob Zombie CD. My mom thought it was satanic at the time and didn't want me listening to it so I traded it to my cousin for I think a limp bizkit CD..or something.
Later on in life I started listening to Marilyn Manson, Cradle, etc. and she doesn't care anymore and even if she did I wouldn't care what she thought.
One question..how old are you? If you're around 15+ then why do you care?

| While I have been totally blown away at music by Dimmu Borgir I would have to say on My List Cradle of Filth would come first. Roach said they have become somewhat mainstream and that is right. I was kinda unimpressed by their new video but the other songs on the CD are pretty damn good. To me Older Cradle of filth is still some of the best music I have heard in a long time.
Dimmu Borgir is still a sweet band but Live they don't really get to me as much as Cradle does.
And why would religion affect the music you listen to. I am atheist (sp?) so I don't believe in heaven or hell, So it wouldn't matter which music i would listen to.
The main point is if you care what other people think of you, I think it shows a huge weakness on your part. Because then you are always trying to impress someone while changing yourself.

| I've seen Dimmu Borgir live...they have a really nice sound live, but not much of a stage show *refers to Static's comment*
But, you said you wanted a CD, so lets go with that one. If you don't want your mom to be upset with it, get some of the newer Dimmu Borgir, just because they aren't quite as easy to understand, and it seems to have a softer touch. Just don't let her listen to songs like "Burn in Hell" and you will be fine I personally like them better than Cradle just because of the style of music I listen to. But that's just my personal opinion.

| My Advice: people will be offended by both CoF & Dimmu Borgir. Listen to what you want.
My second peice of advice: CoF & DB have both gone downhill with their recent CD releases. Find some good black metal (not to say CoF & DB aren't good, but they're defin8ly haven't put out a good CD in a while). Zyklon comes to mind. Msg me on AIM if you want some music. |

| it IS a bit of a weakness i guess... i have always been partial to what others think of me even though here ( like with Alura ) ive always told people "dont listen to what they say about you.."
i have some mixed feelings inside and everyone else in my family kinda looked up to me folowing my uncle going to NC STATE college and playing football but ever since i started listening to rock and metal they have completely changes their veiw of me and other things like that and everyone is trying to get me away from bands like dimmu and cradle even though that is the kind of stuff i love. they dont really care about my music as long as they DONT FIND OUT it talks about death, dying, blood and gore or crap like that.. even though my step-dad was like the biggest white-rapper here listening to tupac bone thugs and all kinds of other rap crap ad he tries to control to what i listen to. i had my APC album 13th step playing one day on the living room stereo and i was listening to Pet and part of the lyrics in the chorus goes " counting bodies like sheep to the rythem of the wardrums" and he about threw a fit over that one little line and i had some songs by korn saved onto my computer and he threw a fit over some song NAMES like "faget" and crap like that and he just kinda looked down on me, as we'e never really gotten along anyway...
* when it comes to Dimmu and Cradle those 2 bands are just examples out of many i could have offered but they are a bit more known and deep in their meanings

| Don't forget Opeth... I have actually been listening to them more then Dimmu and cradle lately. Music is great and half the time it gives a good death metal grunting.
Lyrically I aint got a clue what Opeth are talking about but the music is just great. Best band i have heard since CoF, which was back in feb 2003.
To what JD said about Cradle of Filth live, the stage show is great in all but the first time I saw them live I couldn't believe the song of how heavy and fast it was. Dani's voice(althought unadible) is just insane to listen to. Its kinda strange to see some alien on stilts and gargoyles humpin the backup singer when your high but It is def. the best all around live show to me.
