D2 multiplayer question

I am trying to play a "other multiplayer" game with my friend. He has DSL and I have cable, i try to put in his IP or vise versa and it says that it connot connect to server. We both have the same version. and we are both in the same difficulty level in the game. We cant we connect? Is it some kryptic TCP/IP thing that I need to adjust. If anyone has any ideas, it would be appreciated!

Do either of you have firewalls? That could block the connection.

I've tried this on several occasions and have never been able to get it to work.

It's probably a firewall if anything.

BTW, I don't think this should be here. Shouldn't this be in Newbies Only or D2 General?

Umm i think its a tech problem, since he cant connect to another user with D2.

Its more of both.

Note:Would be good if both of you turn off your firewall then connect.

either that... or do either of you have a router? if so you'll have to forward the ports to the hosting computer.
