Upcoming Drummer (I Hope!)

Ok.. here's the deal. I got a bass for Christmas and it's just not cutting it. It's not fun enough for me. I'm not dissing the bass at all, I love the heavy, thick bass lines. I've thought about electric guitar but for some reason, drumming just keeps popping up in my mind for whatever reason. I'll have about 1,000 dollars when I'm able to get my first "set". What's the best set up for a new person? I wanna be a double pedaler if my money permits, if not, it's fine. Help me create a nice wishlist that'll be less than 1,000 dollars please

learn to drum before you get elaborate... I play bass guitar, and as much as your statement hurts... nothing beats a three piece set... at least then you'll know what the hell you're doing before you decide it's not the instrument for you. With the bass you are/were committed to an amp, a speaker, a bass, and various cords inbetween. Don't make the same mistake of buying too much with a drum set.

GO BASIC. Embellish on it if you actually get better and actually like it. No point in spending a ton of money on something that you are only going to use for a year and quit cuz you don't like it.

Ok, that was great advice, most people were saying "well, i'd get the 500 dollar blah blah blah, and then the 200 dollar pedal" but what you said makes much more sense. If I buy a set, can I add on to it with cymbals and stuff, or will I have to sell the original and then buy a new set?

at Ozzfest they had a "World's Fastest Drummer contest." type thing and I didn't know there were so Many drummers out there. At first i waas like... what the f*ck is that noise, and started looking for helicopters.

Anyway out of that erelevent topic if you want to see if you really want drums just go to guitar center and play the drumers they got for about 15 minutes, they usually have double bass pedals, I went in and played some Cannibal Corpse thrash beats. Its fun and gets out anger.

First kit? 1000$? Check it

http://www.samash.com/catalog/showit...onetodaythanks

Theres your actual Kit, go get all the hardware for it, it shouldnt be that expensive, for a bass pedal, use

http://www.samash.com/catalog/showit...onetodaythanks

THeres your pedals, if you order it online, its like 150$ cheaper, but thats up to you.

You'll also need Drumheads, as well as the cymbal stands, snare stand, and a drum throne, but you can get all those pretty cheap....That should max you at about 900ish if you do it right

Well I have been playing bass guitar and guitar for like 3 and a half years and If bass isnt what you wanted nothing will really get it out until you try other things. You will just know what you want to play, (I used to play guitar fir 1 and a hal years until I tried the bass in a store and I LOVED it, and now I play it in 4 bands and etc) just go try stuff out.

yeah, you can add onto it... I'd say get a set that looks something like this... 3 piece is rather basic, but if you want to go larger and more advanced... just get this

1 - high hat
1 - Snare
1 - bass drum
2 - Rack toms
1 - floor tom
1 - ride

then go from there... but like I said you have to learn to keep the beat though... if you're looking at using a double bass pedal you're talking about keeping four beats. I mean, it's pretty easy to keep 3 beats

Right hand - eighth notes
Left hand - snare on 2 and 4
Right Foot (bass drum) - 1 and 3

and that's a basic rock beat right there...

you're going to throw in your left foot, you have to now manage 4 beats. I mean, you can do it... but it's going to take a while longer than 7 months. You've had a bass that long and have decided that it's not for you. Let me inform you... a bass guitar is only 1 beat... and you're having difficulties with that? drums isn't a step easier, if anything it's harder. I've been playing bass for about 7 or 8 years now... and I'm still not happy with the way I play, there is something you can always work on... but you can't just toss it aside and say you're no good after 7 months.

It's true, you will suck after 7 months

you're not going to be Eddie Van Halen on the guitar in 7 months of owning one

you're not going to be flea on the bass in 7 months

and you're certainly not going to be any Joey Jordison after 7 months of playing the drums

you have to ride it out... and the only thing that makes you better... is

PRACTICE
