Question

Hey I planning on buying a new computer with the following:
512MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800M GTX
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T9300 2.5GHz (6MB Cache 800MHz FSB)
2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz
Windows Vista® Home Premium

I was wondering if 2gb of ram will be fine because I heard vista can use a lot of it. By fine I mean able to run FPS (Crysis,CoD4,Bioshock) on high res without frame skipping and stuff like that.

Re: Question

turn off Aero and Vista can run anything XP can(based on system resources, and not incompatibilities which may exist.).

Re: Question

Better to see if you can get it to come w/ XP, and if you want, you can upgrade to Vista.

And 2 GB of RAM is good for just about anything.

Re: Question

Aero is the super graphics stuff that are completely unnecessary.

With out it, Vista pretty much looks like XP, but still functions as Vista.

I have used Vista for almost a year, and it has been far smoother and more stable than XP, and have no conflict with any games or programs i want to run. So for the most part that computer looks fine although building it yourself would probably be a lot cheaper

Re: Question

Vista....I have 64 bit version, that supports 4 gigs...where are problems, infact so many problems that I am going back to XP after next upgrade. It just glitches, a lot, not sure about the 32 bit version...anyways, looks like a pretty sweet rig. I wouldn't get into building your own rigs unless you have a strong will however, I already spent 2k on mine and am about to spend 1.5 k more...I feel dirty.

Re: Question

personally i suggest 3gigs of ram, and switching to Vista media/pro

4 gigs is overdoing it (xp only recognizes 3.25gbs), and vista is too ****ing annoying (should be fixed in time, but atm it sucks balls imo.)

Re: Question

3gigs won't really work if you're running dual channel. 2gigs is fine but you'll have to upgrade soon.

Re: Question

You can run 4 gigs on a 64 bit version of XP. Most of the annoying features of Vista can be turned off (such as the infamous UAC), my problem is that it glitches as well as certain compatibility problems (had a two year old wireless USB internet adapter, they didn't have drivers for the 64 bit version of Vista, has em for 32 bit though, anyways, bought a cat-6 cable, then as per my familie's forceful suggestion bought a Belkin wireless adapter which actually works). So I guess Vista 32 bit may be alright, it is definitely the future.

Re: Question

The point with building a computer is you will use parts that you know are compatible.

built my machine, 64-bit processor, Vista 64-bit.

Vista runs amazing on this computer. In fact whenever I have to turn on my old XP computer, It just feels so ****ty.

Most people don't like Vista because it is the cool thing on the internet to rebel against big corporations. Don't believe the bull****, Vista isn't perfect but it is in no way bad.

Re: Question

Internet issues are the only things I didn't plan for, Vista is...bearable but it doesn't offer much functionality over the XP. Nothing that is necessary anyways, also x64 bit version of either Vista or XP will have compatibility options with certain software, just a heads up. That said Vista is definitely the future so might as well buy it now and deal with a few issues until SP1 comes out which should fix them all.
