You can be undecided for first 2 years. After that you pick a major. even if you pick your major, you don't go in until the requirements are filled. example business majors in my school will need to get a 3.2gpa.

at least i think thats how it works

Re: Picking a degree.

That is how it works for us. Although, it is strongly encouraged to have some idea of it.

Re: Picking a degree.

For buisness/science students, maybe it is just Ontario, we apply in high school, are accepted into the program and start from there.

Maybe it is just you faggy art students who go to university for the hell of it, but for us with futures we start learning useful things from day one.

1) means I go to the University with the highest male-female ratio (7:3), also known as Imperial College; 2) and 3) made up my course Mathematics and Computer Science.

I didn't make a choice on what I enjoyed because I don't really enjoy any subject in particular, but I hate French (not that I would be opposed to learning it further).

I accept that this doesn't apply to everyone (this would be a typical forum poster's:

1) Jacking-off
2) Being an ass
3) "Hacking"

Which clearly shows a career path) but it's no reason not to try.

If Jenny claims she's not good at anything and doesn't want to end up with an office job, then she's probably better off with work experience or a part-time course to augment her CV. Like I suggested, perhaps a language or humanities subject. Or even a creative diploma of any sort. Degrees are not for everyone, and Jenny, unique as she is, falls into the category "everyone", including you and me.*

Re: Picking a degree.

@Pan: That is a nice system, I have just spent the last two years taking general education courses, and because of that, and the fact I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, I now have to stay at school for five years instead of four.

@x42bn6: I agree that higher education is not for everyone, but everyone has talents, and interests in something, and if she does tell us honestly what those are, then we could guide her into something else, She could earn an Associates Degree for something like Automotive Repair, or something of the sort.

Although, from the looks of it, she is done with this thread, so oh well.

Re: Picking a degree.

I've decided the only path that will give me the freedom to do what I want while still maintaining a steady flow of income is to own a business. It has always been my dream to one day own a bar/club so hopefully I can build up to that one day. It just sucks the business market is so unforgiving and vicious. Not to mention I don't have alot of money as it is. </3 ****.

There's always that loan from the bank you can ask for. Of course, you'll need a real plan for it, not just a dream.

Or you could be the next Mr.Kinky.

Re: Picking a degree.

Owning a business is a great plan, and if you plan on staying in school then look into the business school, there are usually plenty of submajors to choose from that aren't accounting, finance, marketing, etc.

Re: Picking a degree.

Jenny, here is some Uncle_Vanya (tm) advice for you. My first year in real college, I partied, I drank, I did not study at all, I knew what I wanted to do with my studies but I didn't do it, I was lacking a sense of direction a solid understanding that this education nonsense is actually important and all the drinking and partying was actually secondary. So I failed out of college, came back home, 3 weeks later had a full time job rolling mats, first 3 weeks I had 2 consecutive 12 hours shifts every week...anyways, it was bad, since when I lost 50 pounds just working, got promoted to truck loader, and am currently enrolled at a community college there I am realizing that this chemistry and calculus crap is actually easy. Im planning on transfering into a real university for my engineering degree in about a year since I'd rather get my associates in CC since its cheaper. So basically, get a full time job, work at it for half a year or a year, that will really give you a snapshot of the real life, which will scare you into getting back to your studies, then you'll be able to do anything.

As for owning your own business, my father did that many times so far worth of all of his businesses combined average a few million bucks so I guess he is doing good. He does have a nuclear engineering degree from the Soviet navy and an MBA from some University in Holland though, so you might want to look into that. Point is, you need education whatever you do.

Re: Picking a degree.

Did we ask for your life story? She never said "lol I'm thinking of going to college, should I?"

She wanted a bit of help figureing out her major, not the life story of some schmuck russian college failure.

Re: Picking a degree.

I've decided on either Communications or Business and minor in Communications. I'm considering the first one as I'm not thinking a Business degree will be much harder and considering I plan on being self employed it won't be of any real point. I'm knowledgable with the basics and my father is extremely knowledgable about businesses, loans, etc. considering his profession so I may go into business with him.

Thanks for your thoughts Kuzmich. I'll probably remain at the University I attend because I'm doing fine and cost isn't a problem since I've already saved up enough to (even) fail/drop and retake a few classes. What kinds of business does your father own/run?

Dropping out of college isn't an option. I'm getting a degree so no more silly talk plz.

Im trying to give advice based on personal experience. There are many people who at some point take a break from their studies and get a job and are better for it. Your perspective changes...who am I talking to? You're a ****turd, not worth my time.

My father owns meat and poultry shipping businesses in Canada and US, also a few times he does bigger jobs like shipping parts of hydrolic pumps for oil companies in Siberia. I go to college and am keeping a full time job (even though its about to change over the summer), but yeah, your situation doesn't seem to require that (although it is always beneficial in my opinion). The way the US economy is doing right now though, I think that may have some implications on starting your own business right after getting out of college. My father during his inexperienced years was successful mostly due to the condition that Russia was in the early 90s, people were ready to throw money at anything. All Im saying is it will be difficult, just remember that. What kind of business do you plan on running?

Business is definitely a good way to go if you're a social person, you will have to do math however, they even have a special watered down calculus and statistics class for you.
