| Free Stuff -- Quick! Just patched up the upgrades on my livetv.ws website, and finially have the paid upgrades working properly.
I'm looking for a beta tester anyways, so for the first person to successfully answer this question, I'll give you a 1 year Advanced user account, free of charge, valued at ~$120.
Does 0.9999...(continuous) equal 1, and why?
Good luck!  |

yes. Random reactions and stuff like that work together to cause mutations that can be beneficial or detrimental. In this case, an additional .1 is created to off set the imbalance of an odd number. 2 testes are better than 1, 2 ovaries have more eggs, 2 jews can save more money than 1. case in point.

| Re: Free Stuff -- Quick! It is the limit of a sequence of numbers.
0.9999... =Sum9/10^n
(n=1 -> Infinity)
= lim sum 9/10^n
(m -> Infinity) (n=1 -> m)
= lim .9(1-10^-(m+1))/(1-1/10)
(m -> Infinity)
= lim .9(1-10^-(m+1))/(9/10)
(m -> Infinity)
= .9/(9/10)
= 1
If I was to win could I choose a different prize at the same value? |

| Re: Free Stuff -- Quick! I'd give you a full formal definition about Dedekind cuts, the Archimedian property and a full rigorous lesson on limits but I'll refrain from it. No proof is sadly complete without them (what is a limit? Is the limit of an infinite sum equal to the sum of the limit of the underlying sequence?).
All intents and purposes aside, see 0.999... - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia... which explains things better than anyone could possibly do on this forum. Except probably MacMan.* |

.999999......????.....99999...
so where is this elusive .00000....???.....00001 that mysteriously turns 0.(9) from an incomplete number into a whole number?
im sorry, but common sense, something that never ends is something that never ends, no matter which use to say it.
they should paint a ring on the floor and follow it around and around for a while if they think im that stupid for not agreeing, tell them to let me know if theyre still sure when they get bored and quit.
somebody once told me ''assumptions are the mother of all **** ups''. when people agree on guesses, bad things happen..

somebody once told me ''assumptions are the mother of all **** ups''. when people agree on guesses, bad things happen.. | There is no "last" digit. Number the 0s after the decimal point b0, b1, b2, etc. There does not exist a number n such that bn=1 because if you can give me such n, then I can say that n+1 is the last index of the digit that is a one which is a contradiction since there are two possibilities for this last one. Therefore there is no last digit.
It's difficult to understand but the statement that "If one number does not terminate but the other one does they cannot be equal" is wrong. I can represent the number 2 in terms of an infinite iterated square root or an infinite sum. I can represent 1 as 1/1, 1+0, 0+1, 0.5+0.5, and so on. They don't look the same but they are the same number nevertheless.
There are no assumptions here, only consequences of a set of axioms that form today's mathematics.
I'm not too bothered about not winning the prize. I'm not allowed to get live streaming on my computer because it has no TV license anyway.
And Ninja_Blue, yes, it makes it false: "Assume A, therefore A" is an invalid argument. I could say, "Assume 1+1=3, therefore 1+1=3". No. It's a logical fallacy.* |

Unfortunately, this is a moot point. We ALL know the real answer is "yes," because Chuck Norris says so. |

We ALL know the real answer is "yes," because Chuck Norris says so. | "Assume A, therefore B" is also invalid as it implies you deduce B from A, but does not help to prove the truth of A. All you've proved is that if you assume A, you get B - i.e. "Assume 1+1=3, therefore 3=4 since 2=3 and therefore 2+1=3+1". |

I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT ALL THESE COMPETITIONS ARE AMERICAN-CENTRIC AND NOT INTERNATIONAL. BATTLEFORUMS IS AN INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY.* |
