'Bout damn time!

I finally got my grubby lil hands on two 160GB Western Digital external drives(i wanted the 500GB ones, but I came up short with cash ><)! Been waitin AGES for BestBuy to get them in! And wouldn't ya know it, the DAY they get them in, is the DAY Colorado has its third blizzard in three weeks! In fact, it has snowed on Friday of the last three weeks! So I froze my ass off getting to BestBuy. ><

Anyway, just thought I would share this useless information! LOL

Awesome deal, man. I would get an external drive if I wanted to carry it around. One thing about the army, or until I get a van, I want to carry light as I can.

I heard ALL about those terrible storms. One guy couldn't bring his car back to base because it was snowed in and one another couldn't get here because his plane ticket was canceled several times. =\

Yeah, Colorado has FINALLY gotten back into it's "normal" weather pattern, I freakin love it! And yeah, the storms have been nasty things, just the way I like em!

Well, one of the drives is a backup drive, I've backed up everything from both PCs onto it in the event (mainly for the SONY VAIO PC) they crash and burn. The other, games, music, movies, my 3D products for Poser 6, etc... LOL

Word of advice: just because you back something up on an external, don't think the data's safe. Last year, I was working on a pretty big animation project. I had the data on my laptop, on my external, and on my ipod, and simultaneously I accidentally forgot to save the laptop data, my external's power supply stopped working, and my ipod just stopped being recognized by computers and needed to be reformatted.

That is why everything is also backed up on several DVD-RW discs, and why I update the info on those discs every Sunday.

For Poser 6 product files dude. They may not seem to take up that much space when you start working in 3D, but after a year of getting new and free products, the **** adds up, and fast. This PC started with 160GB of free space, after a year of downloading products (and making new ones in 3DSMAX) to make my 3D art, all those files have taken up more then 100GBs of space. Ask anyone who works with Poser 6 (and 3DStudio Max) and they will tell you the same thing, all those files add up real fast and before you know it, you don't have any free space left! ><

I used to work heavily in Poser/3DSM, and I'de just burn all my files onto disks once they'de get to a certain size...Storing them on a bum 500g HD is a waste IMO.
