Gaming as a Medicine?

i just wanna find out the health benefits you got from gaming. in a recent study, it was stated that gaming helps reduce the risk of depression through socialization and it was actually prescribed as a medcine.

well, personally, when im depressed, i dwell on it but i never noticed that video games uplift my spirit, make me forget

how bout you? what has it done to your health? care to share the wonders of gaming to your health?

it may have some good effects on different ages. some medical institutions are exploring on the benefits of video games on kids especially, and not only for depression but with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) as well. there is actually a game station in contact with patients, and it's much cheaper than the normal treatment programs for this kind of disorder. well, i hope that really works so as to eradicate the myth that gaming is bad for the health.well, as long as it's not too much, nothing can go wrong :fwink

It can very well take your mind off things, but as with any anti-stress, too much of it can withdraw you from other things and make your condition much worse. You have to know when to stop.

I think it's quite questionable. It can make you happy, certainly, reducing the risk of depression, but too much is obviously too much. But as medicine? Certainly not recommended in lieu of other medicine.*

someone actually made a paper about this topic, there is definitely a good and a bad in anything. on his research,"World of Warcraft, strongly stimulate the production of dopamine. Dopamine is critical in motor functions and the lack of this chemical causes Parkinson’s disease. So in essence, video games are a preventative measure against Parkinson’s disease. Dopamine also controls many actions taken in the frontal lobe of a brain. Without dopamine in the frontal lobe of the brain, memory, attention, and problem solving abilities decline dramatically. The lack of dopamine as researched by scientists is found to cause attention deficit disorder and schizophrenia. "

after reading that post, i realized it supported this article on ADHD. there is actually a game station in contact with patients, and it's much cheaper than the normal treatment programs for this kind of disorder.
