| Y o wazzup, seeking some counselin' Okay this is as about as idiotic as asking dating advice on a gaming forum (seen it happen before...)
Alright I was wondering, what would you do (say you were at a school perhaps college/university):nooob
Your in calculus of more than 1 variable, the class is not difficult but you **** up anyhow... (its undergraduate work for a science major/science is such a ****ing pain in the ass)
the homework makes up 10 percent of your grade (you get all those points) but
1st midterm you do average as in C plus (thanks to a curve); 30/50, 31 is average (gives you a B-)
2nd midterm you do terribly, you get a D (with the curve) 13/50
Now the midterms make up 40 percent of your total grade. 20 percent each. 10 percent is from homework.
50 percent comes from the ****ing final, as of now lets assume your confidence isn't too strong nor is your knowledge of the subject at hand.
The chances of you score perfect is slim to none... and you don't want to end up with a C or lower in the class. You want at least a B- (preferably a solid B)
You have one of 2 options
Since you have a courseload of 4 classes (1 class mroe than a fulltime student). You can lighten the load by dropping the class. the other classes aren't too bad except for say like one of them. (basically in addition to the terrible academic woes faced here witht he calculus class you have other tests/finals to worry about)
(Unfortunately if you drop the class, although it wont affect your gpa, you ****ing get a note on your transcript saying you dropped the class at a very late week... weakening your chances of getting into say, med school)
You will have to retake the class but this time around, you at least know a little about the material...
(OR)
You stick with the ****ing class to the end hoping for a B and cramming like a little mother****er you are even thuough you KNOW that your weak because of missing a bunch of lectures and falling asleep in the rest and you know the other classes are also a bitch. The advantage here is that you have the chance to get that B and not have your transcript marred.
I don't need lectures on how I'm a lazyass and shoulda gotten my act together in the first place. I know Im a lazyass and part of me says I'm screwed. But say your in my shoes
And you have 2 options
-Drop the class and retake it even though it shows that you droped the class (without hurting your gpa) You might even get an A by retaking it.
-Dont drop the math class and go through with it hoping for the best (potentially hurting your gpa and not learning much and therefore unprepared for the next class in the series/math courses goes by "series") but you HAVE the chance since the final is worth 50 ****ing percent.
So fellow forumers, please give me good advice. because Shit I'm so screwed.
College costs a hell lot of money and you don't want to **** it up...

| Continue the course, especially if you are paying a lot for it. To drop it after going for 2 years is disappointing. If you really study for the final part of your course, perhaps you won't do as badly as you thought.
Or, perhaps you might want to speak to the lecturers about retaking them. They probably will refuse, but it's better to get all bases covered first.* |

| I'm not sure if I understand what you're saying.
Maybe I wasn't too clear =P
but still good to hear someone tryin to help me figure this one out,
in college here, the thing is run by a quarter system, i didn't waste 2 years
i wasted less than 3 months at screwing up at this class,
in a quarter system you get like approx 10 weeks and then you get your final grades and then you start a new quarter with new classes
and yeah you are paying money for going to school no doubt/thats not the main issue here though. its about getting a good gpa and not completely destroying the chances of getting into grad school
(I'm a freshman and this is my second quarter: fall quarter to be exact)
I still havent got any concrete responses as to what to do or suggestions and whatnot. |

| drop it and take it again. If you get an A next time, you will probally get a way better mark in the next part of your series, and im sure the med school or whereever you said your going will think more about the higher marks in the higher series than your freshman marks.

| I like your reasoning COTA-god
Admittedly, I'm leaning towards what you're saying heh.
Not many replies maybe the first read was a bit too long or most people don't know too much about college here meh. ::sigh::
basically to reiterate
2 options
-drop/retake but get a "dropped class at week x"
-continue class, try to get a B but probably end up with an unfavorable C or lower.
Thanks for the advice sofar, I'm going to have to decide this by like this afternoon =D |

| Take Option B, only give up if you know you are getting a D. I game close to getting a D in iSeries programming (IBC233). But I scored 9/10 on my final assignment, 9.5/10 on my final test and the assignment I thought I would get 0 on got 7/10, left with B+ (I didn't do the labs ).
I can honestly tell you that I failed 1 course in college. I was in OOP244 (C++) and I failed the exam (it was hard as hell). I was pretty pissed off but I said to myself I will do it again. What happens? Me and my friend work together and we both got A the second time .
My GPA right now is 3.2, but it doesnt mean I am going to give up on anything. If you can still make that B, then do it!! Otherwise, you have the option of taking it again. Just don't give up on it >:. |

| Drop the class, but at the same time fake some kind of illness and try to get it written on your transcript that you dropped due to health reasons.

thats the rare occasion where the prof grades on ur final grades and such and ignores your old shit... retaking stuff is different here unfortunately not as lenient as you guys have put it.
in fact, i've been to a community college to take courses for credit in the summer. the system is SO different
and yeah your upperdivision is more important; welcome to real life it sucks, anyhow thanks for the optimism though. lol
im an hour from my counseling appointment, any last minute tips will be welcome! |
