whenever my computer starts up i get this annoying pop up on the right side of my screen. does anyone know what this is or how to remove it?

i've tried spybot search & destroy, adaware, microsoft antispyware, avast, and norton anti virus and none of it worked.

Well, assuming that you have all those updated, you might need to do some reg editing to remove it. Or, for just temp relief, CTRL ALT DELETE the task until you find a better solution.

You could find the task in Task Manager, and then go and find the file [search works wonders], then manually delete it.

It isn't. You said you would need to use REGEDIT to get rid of it, and until you can, to keep closing it over and over until it magicaly dissapears.

I suggested editing the registry if he couldnt find a better solution. And if he doesnt know how to do that, he could just close out of it every time he starts his PC until he found a usable cure. Your way couldnt work though, since spyware doesnt just lay on a PC in the open where its easy to delete.

Spyware is intended for the average user. Average users, wouldn't know what task manager is. Average users, would see the "This folder contains...[blahblah], and turn around there. There is a good chance that the file could easily be erased.

But not in this case, considering anti spyware apps arent even picking it up.

...maybe he hasn't updated lately? In any case, let's hear back from him before we continue this.

all of my applications are up to date and i've tired finding it in task manager, but just before it loads there are about 6 application that start up and disappear before i have a chance to memorize them and i think one of them is the pop up because when i have task manager open and i close the pop up nothing on the list changes.

Check your startup folder, see if anything odd is in there.

Download Hijack This!, then go to one of the forums on his site and post the log + wait for review. Don't delete anything found in the Hijack This! scan unless you want to **** your computer up the arse.

Or find the name of the process, remove it from startup (if found there), search + remove it from the registry, and the finally search + remove it from the harddrive, in that order. Then download less porn and you should be good..

Actuallly, I ignored that "don't delete stuff randomly" warning everyone gives you, and my computer worked quite nicely.

Grab the spyware removers in the thread 'Files you need', scan and see if it returns.*

spy sweeper found it. it was adware, it also found 2 trojans on my pc.
i payed the $30 to buy the program, it obviously works better than all the other programs i have put together

what a pain after running msconfig and turning off all services and all the start up programs, the bastard would pop up. even starting in safe mode didn't stop it.

I don't think regedit is a good solution, because there are too many things there, this is a big shortcoming of windows.

What I sugest is that u type in the run window "msconfig" and in the window that appears click the startup bar to see what programs start when you log in. If u find it just disable it, and watch for the source to kill it.
If u don't know the name, no problem, because you will recognise all the other programs that start at logon.
