| Alright... does the monitor have trouble working at all, does it show the BIOS/startup information first, then shut off when Windows starts?
Answer that question while I marinate on some possible solutions... |

| I say that, because my front usb drives kept shorting out when I'd plug into them. |

| Oh, ok, that's what I thought. I had a similar problem once. Now how did I fix that...
Well... if the monitor isn't recognizing the computer at all, there's always the possibility that there's a connection problem. Make sure that the monitor is connected to the graphics card. If you must, disconnect it and connect it again. You might want to try another monitor (borrow one from a friend if you have to) just to make sure it's not the monitor's problem.
If it's not the monitor (meaning your friend's monitor does the same thing as yours does), then it's your graphics card. If you've messed around with your computer's innards at all, make sure you didn't unplug the graphics card's power. Might wanna make sure you didn't unplug the graphics card, either; if it's in an AGP slot and you pushed the tab at the end of the slot that holds the card in, you might have knocked the card out of the slot.
If you haven't opened up your computer, you might have a defective graphics card. Same thing happened to me with my old HP--the onboard video stopped working, so I had to go out and get a new card. In that case, you'll probably need to get a new graphics card. You can get one at Best Buy or Circuit City. If you need to get a graphics card, let me know and I can throw you some recommendations. |

| It's "turning itself off" because it doesn't recognize that it's connected to the computer. Refer to my previous post. |
