| I don't believe you can, because most things are all onboard with your motherboard. Meaning, your motherboard has the video cards and soundcards built directly into it. Though, you can purchase sound cards to plug into the extra ports on your computer. |

Also a new sound card | It's possible, but hard, because a lot of components are designed to fit in the laptop, so disassembling it might be hard.*

| I dont think PCMCIA video cards exist. However sound cards do, you can purchase a Creative THX certified 24-bit one that plugs into your pcmcia slot.
I dont think video cards can be upgraded simply because they are specifically designed to fit in a laptop. In terms of cooling, voltages, etc.. And could be even furthur tweaked by the manufacturer, so I doubt you can upgrade the video card. =(

| I think Alienware laptops are upgradeable in terms of a video card. In general, however, a laptop can't be upgraded a whole lot.

| Last I checked... video cards are one of the few laptop components that are truly difficult to upgrade. Except for screen size, of course. |

| Ok, laptop extrodinairre ready to answer the question
Upgradable parts on a laptop:
Sound (through PC card)
Processor
Memory
Video Ram (It's shared ram on all laptops)
Non-upgradable:
Chipset
GPU
In that, you can upgrade the video ram due to the fact that most laptops are run on shared memory. In otherwords, if you have 2gb of ram in your laptop, you can have a 512mb video memory and 1.5 gigs of system memory, make sense? That is why when you buy your laptop it is advertised at 512mb of ram and a 64mb video, when actually you have 380 something.
NOTE: I used to refurbish HP/Compaq laptops so that is where my expertise comes from, but I'm PRETTY sure other laptops are very similiar. Quote: |

Unless you are talking about just taking them off and putting a new on, but if you are building a new screen you have to polarize the LCD, which takes special equipment that costs thousands of dollars and a special environment to preform.

| Yeah... I'm kinda wishing that I had gone with the Geforce 6600 rather than the Radeon X600 at this point. The other laptop had a Centrino 1.7Ghz processor as opposed to a 1.6, too. |

| Here's something to think about when buying a laptop, guys: DO NOT BUY A LAPTOP FOR GAMING. LAPTOPS WILL BE OUTPREFORMED BY ANY DESKTOP.

| Yes you can but more often than not it's more convienient just to buy a new laptop and in some cases if not most it's cheaper too. |
