| PCI Express?
I was just wondering. Is there a difference between a PCI card slot, and a PCI express slot, or is that just another name for the same thing?

| Yes there IS a diffrence, im pretty sure you need a pci express mother board, because it wont fit in a normal PCI slot.

| PCI came around quite a few years ago, its a expansion slot for your computer. They are usually white. The bandwidth on these are not that great, and it can only go 1 way at a time.
AGP stands for Accellerated Graphics Port, and was an architecture which needed to be implimented for the newer graphics cards. It can transfer data faster then PCI
Now PCI Express is a newer architecture which is faster yet than AGP. There are differnent Size PCI express ports, from 1x 4x 8x & 16x. A 16x, which is what you will run graphics cards in, can run in 8x mode & 16x mode. What is unique with PCI Express is that data transfer is asyncronomously. Meaning the data can transfer Up & Down at the SAME TIME, this differs from AGP & PCI.

They haven't really made a card that uses all pci-express has to offer right now there's really no diffrence between agp and pci-express and it'll be like that for a little while.. | Yes, PCI express cards are as good as top of the line AGP cards, only they use less energy and produce less heat. | |

| Except now the top of the line cards, like the 7800gtx from nvidia, are ONLY pci express. and AGP will phase out soon enough .(years though). | |
