| Is this our new skin? Can't navigate the webpage at all if you're not logged in. I even got the page to change into this AS I was logging in. You also can't 'Back' out of it and it never redirects you. You have to retype the address and hope you don't get redirected again. Wonder how much $$$ this is bringing in? Or is this part of the laughable "relaunch?" Cause everyone knows guests love advertisements you can't navigate away from. |

Cause everyone knows guests love advertisements you can't navigate away from. | Once upon a time, web advertisers' ads were actually kept in nice 468x60 boxes. Unfortunately, those Doubleclick idiots decided to start putting obscure JavaScript in their ads, and then when people started blocking JavaScript, they resorted to using CSS to position their ads all over the place, with JavaScript thrown in for good measure.
So Google up "Firefox" and "Adblock Plus" and you're set.*

| Re: Is this our new skin? the big ads normally only show up if your not logged in.
things wouldnt be so bad if kink could get that "auto-logout" problem fixed, where every time we visit the forums were logged out.
as far as cash, im sure with the traffic flow BF gets, hes probably getting at least 700 monthly
granted, he has a TON of ads on this place, could be around the 1000 mark?

| Re: Is this our new skin? I don't have the exact same problem, but I am indeed getting sick of new tabs opening up with ads every time I land on the page where I login. BF is bookmarked to me at the portal, so when I go to Forum Index to login (L2Cookies people, all this logging in is really getting old) I get slammed with irritating new popup tabs saying "Win _____" or "Vote on ______." Joining BF is supposed to stop the ads, and I've been joined for a few years now...nice if I stopped getting the goddamn ads.
Hoards of revenue to the site owner doesn't make much difference to the people who are getting sick of looking at ads. I vote registered members get paid 5 bucks for every ad they have to look at in spite of being a registered member who supposedly doesn't have to look at ads anymore.
Or you could just fix the login problem. Whichever's easier. |

| Re: Is this our new skin? Oh, nice way of handling the problem. "I don't get anything, so there must not really be a problem."
FYI, it occurs for me when I go to Forum Index from the Portal. It's not when I log on, it happens before I get the opportunity to log on. The login box on the Forum Index is what I have to use to login, and before I can even click the Roboform button to auto-fill/submit my username/password, I get a popup.
It DOES happen, Chris...pretending it doesn't or that it's some fault of the people complaining about it isn't exactly going to win you Best Admin of the Week. Perhaps taking an actual constructive course of action to FIX the problem instead of denying that it exists would be a more appropriate choice for an admin.
2 choices: get rid of the ads, or keep the ad and fix the damn glitch that forces us to log in each time. It doesn't happen for logged-in members SFAIK, and the login issue is pissing people off anyways. A wise person would actually fix something instead of saying "nope, no problem here." |

It could be a problem on the user's end though, with regards to popup blockers or which internet browser they are using. I tried logging in via Firefox and all I got was one little popup to a poker site, which was blocked. I don't get any of this on Opera either.
Donny cannot remove those ads because he doesn't have the money to pay for this server without them.
I think for the time being, I suggest you do the setup that either I (install Opera) or X42 does (FF + AdBlockPlus).
As for your cookies being "erased" to BF. It could also be a program like AdAware that is deleting your cookies thinking they are trackers (it happened to me when I had it), or something on this server constantly changes.

just trying to clarify.

just trying to clarify. | The suggestion of which is not to use AdAware to remove BattleForums cookies.
If you can't stay logged in, I suggest you do simply clear cookies (or, on Internet Explorer, Temporary Internet Files too) and log in normally.
When you do log in, do the following to check:
Firefox: Tools > Options > Privacy > Show cookies... > battleforums.com
You should have the following cookies:
~ bbpassword - containing a hash (MD5?) of your password; don't post it for obvious reasons.
~ bbthread_lastview - supposedly tracks stuff for new threads.
~ bbuserid - your user ID - mine's 3809.
~ bbsessionhash - this is the actual thing you need to verify a certain session.
~ bblastactivity - don't know what this is for.
~ bblastvisit - supposedly a timestamp for your last visit for new threads.
You should have all 6. If not, then you've messed up somewhere.
On Internet Explorer, I have no idea how it works as the cookie scheme is difficult to read on a text editor.*
