Not Enough Soldiers

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7802712/

we dont have enough people willing to go to iraq for a year or two on the ground.. i hear there are too many people trying to join the air force, i dont know about the navy. but no one wants to be on the ground over there. it says 40 percent of the army in iraq are reservists. we have a bunch of middle aged men trying to fight a war.

i wouldnt expect a draft, but i wouldnt be too suprised if this keeps up. im 17 now, but have one year of school left. the military is a very real option for me, anf probably quite a few of you. what do you expect to happen? do you think a draft is actually an option in 2005? we have two countries to occupy and not enough people willing to be soldiers. thoughts?

edited out all the useless crap i included. its sad when i get off topic in my own topic =/

Well I guess this probably will shut all of those who tought the US were ready to wage war agaisnt Iran, Syria and N.Korea.

And I think it isn't right to start a draf simply to occupy a third-world country, but hey, it takes what it takes.

Damn, i just turned 16 a few months ago. A draft, for either 2005-207 would suck ass.

As much as i love war games, played em, lived em, mastered them, (such games like 007:nightfire, agent under fire, starwas battle front, counter strike, medal of honor games) i still think i would be scared as shit to fight in a actual war. I wouldnt mind being able to go out and kill a few people around here were i live, but i know it wouldnt be a reality, even though as much as i would like it to be, if i was to actually do that, though, no.. i never would, if i was given a choice.

theres a few things i just, really cant stomach:

over the past few months, for some reason, watching things like surgeries on tv, the beheading of that american soldier, watching the eye surgery on Ebaums World, my friend waving his fishing pole around with the hook still attatched and catching his finger on it, shit like that is starting to make me really cringe when i see it.
But thats just on T.V. War is tons worse than what we see on tv.

Another thing, is, what if im not really the big-bad invincible person that i seem to be on my video games? I mean, on SW:BF, you can die, think nothing of it, and respawn, fight, and die again. In life, there are no second chances. What if i was to get shot, and never make it home? I cant hardly stand even the thought of that. Even though i support the war in means of taking out a raving lunatic like Saddam, and disarming WMD, if there are/were any, im all for that, but throwing away lives just to acheive a far away goal?

Bull shit, is all i have to say.
If there is a draft, and one refuses, isnt a fine usually in your future, or jail time? **** that. just, **** it. Damn it. whatever.
I dont think anyone should have control over my life in that way. People i dont even know lives are at stake- so i get sent in to be killed for them. Better 1, than 1000, right? I still dont care. Throw me in jail, im not participating in no draft in wartimes.

I just couldnt stand to live like that.

you forgot one thing

ever get that adrenaline rush where nothing can stop you? let it out on some ususpecting enemies, thats the "fun" part of war

you wont participate in a draft in wartime.. AAAHAHAHAHH
WHEN ELSE WOULD THEY HAVE A DRAFT DUMBASS

if i joined the military i would be a pilot, i just love planes, facinating things to me

not to mention dropping bombs is fun!

They'll still draft you. It's a draft, not a signup. The only way is to skip the country, or have serious mental problems, health problems, or physically disabled.

The problem is, if they do have to start a draft, it means were so far in over our head, we're going to be fighting for a LONG time to come...that'll suck

I have flat feet. I can't be drafted. I win.

Honestly I think it's funny. Especially because everyone's flocking to the Air Force. My best friend, a female, is going to be in the Air Force. She starts most likely by September. I'm glad she chose what she chose. I mean I'd rather her not be in the military at all, but at least she chose the smart one.

I think that if you just break your little finger, they wont be able to draft you. But that would make a coward out of you. Then again, it all depends on the cause youwould be dying for...

someone has to fight. its not at all beyond the united states power to fight this war, but without a draft we may be in over our heads. we just need more soldiers... we have the population, but no one is willing to fight. the 9/11 patriotism is wearing off, and its been a few years. all of the guys who signed up for two years are done. theyre free from the military, and we need more soldiers on the ground. id hate to be stuck in a desert for a year or two, be away from everyone i love for that long. but someone has to. and if everyone thinks "someone else will join, me not joining wont have a significant effect," then there will be a significant effect.... someone has to go, and i guess i could survive a year or two away from home. i just really dont want to leave my girlfreind. but someone has to go. alot of someones.

Let me put it this way: I don't give a rat's ass about my country. I'm not about to die for it. Trust me I'd rather be in Europe than the US. **** democracy. It's over rated.

Agreed. I'd never die for 'my' country. I wouldn't risk my life for it...especially in a situation such as this one.

However...if it was defending...it may be a bit different..as in we were under attack and endangered anyway. Otherwise...why the hell would I go out seeking war? That's stupid...atleast in my eyes.

I'd never go to war, I'd move to Canada before I'd ever go to war on a draft.

I'm a pansy, plain and simple.

I was in the Army before 9/11, but almost the next day, people were shipped over to Iraq, including me. I was forced to leave after a bad knee injury.
Everyone is affraid of a draft, fear not, because it will most likely never happen. If by some chance it does, simply sign up for the coast guard. They are considered "military" and will never leave our shoreline. Or if worse comes to worse, PeaceCorps. LOL. Build houses for South America, or some thing along those lines. The bad side is if their is a draft and you are called, you WILL be most likely put in as a grunt on the front lines.

Some basic notes on the Draft: (as far as I remember)
Can not be drafted if you are an only child.
Can not be drafted if you are the only supplier of income in your household.
Can not be drafted if you are the only parent of a child under the age of 10.
Can not be drafted if you are pregnant
Can not be drafted if you were not born in this country
Can not be drafted if you can't speak a word of english
Minimum length of service under the draft is 4-6 years depending on the demand

This might easy your worries.

Mat, what i ment was, like lets say, after this war, they start drafting just to increase the military count to prepare to a future war. If im sure no big scale fighting is going to occur, ill join the army, if i have to, to make the extra income.

The service would be 4 years, which is minimum.

I'm VERy much considering the ARMY. I've talked to a lot of recruts and I've done my research.
I'm most likey to try active duty in the networking field. IF and ONLY IF my body gets in shape and I can handle situation I would be willing for try a SF unit.

I don't know if I would stay in it long, but I do want some Networking skills for when I do leave the services. Maybe set up my own business or just get contracted. We'll see

To comment more on your part, I really do NOT believe the draft will happen like a lot of people think. And if these people are SOOO worried maybe they should join up and get some of their friends to join.

Though a deep dark part of me wants to see a draft happen so some of these goddamn lazy ass Americans can appreicate the **** they do to their country. Time for them to grow up, stop sucking on their mother's nipples. If they don't care for their country, get the **** out!

Tell the north version of you to stop flaunting their nukes and we won't have to.

A draft can not simply be put into effect to increase the numbers, without having a major loss of troops during a wartime situation. So if their is no present war you can be garenteed their will be no draft.

There are countries in which it is required of all highschool grads of 18 or older to sign up with the military.
Our constitution forbids it, but remember, amendments can be made. If that happens, or something close to it, thats what i ment by i'd sign up for the extra income.
thats it.
