| e-lives VS 'real' lives Ok, so here's the deal. I used to be glued to the PC screen 24/7 playing games and chatting on forums and MSN/AIM. Somebody told me I should stop for a week and I did.
The results have really suprised me.
Since I stopped going on the PC so much about 3 weeks ago, i've gained an amazingly active social life. I hang out with my friends, talk to girls and lots of other stuff. I think that the PC was just offering me an easy escape to life- perhaps not a good one, but an easy one. Anyways i'm grateful i've discovered the outside world. Now the computer just seems boring most of the time. Rarely do i play diablo 2, or any other pc game for that reason.
My questions to you are: Which life do you think you "live" in? Is it truely possible to balance both? Have you had the same experiances?

| I live in both, and yes it is possible. I have groups of friends in both and i enjoy spending time with people on both. Not just visiting sites / playing games on the web, but i chat on msn / aim and voice chat on ventrillo which really makes the expirience more personal. I also have a really hot group of friends and some really nice looking girl friends i hang out with. I am pretty much consittered a "prep" at my school but i also live my "online" life at home, along with my social life. SO yes it is possible to have both, But you should not live by 1 if you expirence them both. |

| I've switched off and on over the years. I used to have a 6,000 member club online that I would spend all day with, and then up until I got out of school and got with my now ex-fiance, I was on the pc 24/7. Then I was never on the computer, and it was actually the most fun I had ever had. But then a lot happened, and now I'm back on the comp, 24/7.

| I used to play diablo 2 with friends from school I knew, but nothing like "OMG 1.10 is comming must get home early" Nothing addictive. I quit diablo months ago now, and I can't say things have improved or have not. I go out and get drunk more often than before and go dancing with friends but thats about it. I never did "lose my social life" to the internet.

| I live an "e-life." I, for some reason, never succeded in being very social. It really doesn't bother me that I'm like this... it's what I enjoy doing.
Although I do have 3 or 4 freinds that I hang out with sometimes, I'm still saying I live more of an e-life than real-life.

My questions to you are: Which life do you think you "live" in? Is it truely possible to balance both? Have you had the same experiances? | Well, most of my life is my real life. I mean hanging out with freinds, my g/f, playing soccer, all that good stuff but i do spend few hours at night on the forums, thats caused mostly cause i have a condition there i can't go to sleep and i am not gonna take any of those drugs. So anyways, i say my real life is my most important life. I don't even play games anymore.

| My ELife is mainly on the weekends for odd reasons. My RLife is during the weekdays.
I have homework to do, people to call and hang out on the weekdays. I only want to hang out with my GF on the weekends and that's probaly only a couple hours on Friday and Saturday. So I spend the majority of the other time here. And then on sunday, I go to work. |

| My "elife" is part of my real life...they really aren't seperate. I hang out with friends...goto shows...have a girlfriend...but at the same time, I get on the net and talk to some friends online...and post on these forums. I don't see why you have to have one or the other. Not everyone who enjoys the internet lacks a social life.

| I found the same much like you wild fire. I used to be a starcraft player 24/7 and I had more friends online than I could fit on one account so my bot had to have 25 friends! Then the stupid internet company charged too much and we got rid of it. I have to say I am better for it because I am a lot more social with people in REAL life now. I can talk to girls with ease, and I absolutely would shove my head up my ass when i was a 24/7 comp guy. SO I think real life needs to be in some ways seperate from your E-Life, but like roach said, you can have real friends that are online.

| lol most of the people i talk to on the net are people i'm mates with in reality so there is pretty much no distinction. i use the net mainly to kepp up with friends in other countries who i grew up with who moved away etc. i don't talk to many people i've never met and i never play games on here. haha i use this to vent my ever renewing annoyance with society. hehe..
i think both have value. i don't think its fair to say that internet friends aren't real friends because often they know *you* better than anyone else.. there is no decisions based on looks, nationality, gender, or other discriminations which is good... overall internet is cool except if you're a sexual predator.. then you should go awaayy

| I spend time on my computer because the people around me are the most shallow people you will meet. In my city, relationships are about money, not love. Everything else reflects upon this, so I avoid the real life. Still, I am surprisingly popular considering that my brain consists of more than a sponge connected to my spine, and that I am what one would call a geek. I don't visually look like one, but I am. I play chess at lunch, I know computers like the back of my hand, which i see plenty of typing. I write poetry that puts those who read it in awe, in my unique self-developed technique. But people for some reason, half of the people see me as an idiot, because my grades suck. Intuectually, I am superior to them, but I am also the laziest person you will ever meet. I figured out that when the curriculum books in seventh grade were those that I had read in second and first, there was no learning going on in my head. I knew too much for them to teach me more. Others see me as a jock, though I don't play any sports other than paintball. Both images of me are fictional: I am not an idiot or a jock. I'm intelligent and hate sports. I just lift weights to better myself, so people assume that I play football all the time.
I spend time online because nobody knows who I am. This leaves me the oppurtunity to be taken seriously without the plauge of deception invading your minds. |

| This thread should go to chitchat. It's a bit too 'deep' for CC, but there is nothing to debate, making it a bad fit for AS. |
