| Here's what I think, since the universe is so enormous, it would be a huge
waste if earth was the only planet out there with living beings. Which means
there probably are intellegent life forms out there other than us.
Now think about this, out of all the galaxies out there, there has to be some
that are older than ours. In those galaxies, there has to be planets that
formed before ours and were able to sustain life before ours. Then chances
are, intellegent life forms must been in existance way before us humans. Maybe
our technology is thousands or even millions of years behind... and if at that
stage, they are still not able to invent something for intergalatic travel then
i dont think any being will ever be able to come in contact with other beings.

| or maybe our technology is thousands if not millions of years ahead of an alien race. we dont know because there hasnt been any real contact with aliens.

| Have you heard the theory of stages a civilization goes through?
This isn't exactly it, just roughly from memory:
Stage 1 uses the planets resources, like Earth's water, oil and gas gold etc. (the stage we are in...)
Stage 2, the civilization has become very advanced and is able to use the energy created by their sun (their star) and use that as their resources.
Stage 3 is super advanced civilization which is able to obtain the energy of every star in their galaxy and use that as their resources...
I dunno why I post that, just some food for thought. I forgot what book that came from... and I don't wanna try and find out. Meh... so we're quite in the early stages of advanced civilization... but who knows, the guy may be bsing.

| Well how people say about aliens transportation as being flying saucers... how would we know? We never really ever came into contact with any. Plus we don't know anything about Aliens, how they are and how they're like and what they look like. But hey what do we know... oh well...

| hmm they found a few "planets" near by that are similar to earth :alien
Anyway i think that our diseases and theirs would be veyr different and we'd both be killed by each other in that sense... think about it our diseases evolve differently because of different area's we live in. |

| well diseases might be an issue might not be. We don't
know what their immune systems is like. We don't know
how their body interacts with the environment. I mean look
at our planet, there's millions of differnt species. And thats
from our planet... who knows what weird messed up aliens
are out there.
I'll put $10 on the fact that there will be some aliens out
there with their ass(s) on their face.

| I dont know if its already been said, im too lazy to read all post right now, but it has been suggested that the origins of life on earth may have been from somewhere else in space. I'll elaborate on this when I get more time, in school right now. |

| Yeah, you're right. It's in ancient Egyptian legends. They say that "great flaming chariots" came from the sky. |

| Yeah, the theory saying that human race came from outter space is not that unbelievable at all... we are the only beings in the whole planet whose brains evolved, and the only race that can actually wonder for its own existance (it's a supposition, there's no way you can know if a chicken wonders or not...)
About the contact between human race and aliens... it has a very very slim change (like E-100000000 %) because of these reasons:
- Universe being so big: Enough said, if we would like to contact some aliens they would have to either live in our galaxy or a galaxy really near to ours or have a LONG lifetime and a "economic" way of travelling (so it doesn't take a lot of hrm... "gas" and they can travel the whole way). Another theory is that black holes can "teleport" stuff from one end to another, in this case, finding a black hole might take us to a galaxy or solar system in which an alien race has evolved...
- Time: Universe is SO old (I don't know exactly but go figure), there might have been millions of races before us but none now, so we are alone... maybe a new race comes before human race is completely extinted... who knows.
- Technology: Maybe they don't have the technology needed to travel to another solar system or galaxy, or maybe they have a very advanced technology that they use for other things (if you could choose between meeting an alien or being immortal and happy forever what would you choose?)
That's my 2 cents... |

| ok, how we will be able to com. with aliens:
they most likely will be more advanced then us if they land on Earth, and therefore, they probably will know of all the vaccines to their dissease, so therefore we will be able to com. with them.
how to understand what they say:
point at an object and say what it is. if they understand and have a word for it, they SHOULD point to it and be able to say what it is for them. just do that enough and they can speak our language and we can speak theirs.

| for the first part;
we wouldnt know their body structure, they wouldnt know ours(maybe...i doubt it though) its like giving a vaccine of small pox to a cow...wait they never get it to begin with so why give it to them now? For all we know, they might have completly different body structures down to the basic atom.
2nd part;
what is a chair to us is a death machine to them, for some things like a door it would make sense. but what if they dont know what a hat is? things like that really hurt your idea for communication.

| Since this is on the general topic of aliens..
Someone said that their methods of contacting us would be different. That's pretty unbelievable. The universe exists on a certain set of rules that makes certain devices the only means of acheiving contact, such as radio waves. It is highly likely that any intelligent race has had to use the same devices or something close to the same devices as we have had to use.
As for diseases, the white man analogy is a pretty good way of looking at it. Still, as others have mentioned, aliens who have mastered space travel have probably considered meeting other intelligent life and methods of contacting other races in an appropriate fashion.
As in the case of contact / translation, it probably wouldn't take long to set up a system where both races could communicate. Since sound is a universal thing, it is the obvious choice for achieving understanding.
I hope I didn't sound too much like everyone else .
