Paraphrased:

A couple were kicked off of a plane because the woman had a shirt on that depicted a nude couple in an artistic scene, they are now suing because they believe their constituional rights have been violated.

I think that because it had nudity on it that it shouldnt be allowed on the plane but I also beleive that the woman should have been asked to change her shirt or somthing like that. If she payed for the ticket then she should be able to ride the plane. On the other hand what parent wants their child to see a woman with a shirt on with "artistic" porn on it?

Yea I can understand that but I mean if a 7 year old kid looks at it and asks his/her parents wtf it is what would you tell them? Im sure no parent in the world wants to give there kid "the talk" at the age of 7.

BTW: How do you know what something is until you look at it?

if it offends you don't keep looking at it, if you kid ask he is old enough to know, if not just lie to him, parents lie to their kids all the time...

I had a somewhat similar experience recently. I took a keyboarding class this summer (I don't know why, I type 63 wpm ) and one of the assignments was to type an application letter to a fake business, but my teacher told me to "reinvent the wheel." So I wrote the letter as if I were a power hungry CEO with nothing but bad intentions for the company and strong criminal record. I mentioned a mysterious disappearance of some of my unfavorable peers at a former company, and ended up getting hauled off to the principle's office. He accused me of murder, threatened a psych test, and rambled on about 9-11, terrorism, and Columbine. He said that because I had signed my name to the paper (business applications are always signed) everything I said must be true. I told him I wrote that I was a CEO of several corporations, and that that was obviously not true, but he still gave me a goddamn lecture. I got off easy because I think, through some miraculous stroke of common sense, the guy realized that the paper was a joke.

People are too touchy these days. She got busted because someone didn't like her shirt, and I got busted because I got too creative with some creative writing. In my opinion other people need to cool the fuck down spend their time with more important things.

This should be a problem of the parent, not of the woman who wears the T-shirt.

If the parent doesnt want to give his kid *the talk* at the age of 7, he can lock his kid in the house until the *proper* age is reached Given the fact that the real world is full of sexual messages/implications, the only way to avoid *difficult* questions from your kids is to lock them in. The other way is to try to reply to the kids questions as sincerely as possible ( but this is way more difficult than throwing the offensive T-shirt out of the plane...)

Why should a id have to be locked up because some lady wants to wear a shirt with porn on it? Its so wrong. Like you said its way more difficult than to make the lady change her shirt, The woman should just change her shirt. Is it that big of a deal? Will it effect her life that much?

A kid SHOULDN'T have to be locked up in the first place, simply because of a shirt, despite what he/she sees. That's just stupid. It's not like a simple shirt is going to directly effect the lives of some strangers. Not permanently .

It's the parents responsibility anyway, to either:

A)Explain what the shirt means (which is really what they SHOULD do)

B)Make sure their kid stops staring at some stranger that has nothing to do with them. It's none of their business in the first place.

It's really simple.

Just because the parents don't like what the shirt says, or shows, doesn't mean the person should be made to leave the plane. We do have a thing called freedom of speach...and there's no good reason to make someone leave because of a shirt.

just a thought...

does the transportation agency have the right to refuse service? Methinks so....to a certain extent, like you cant not allow someone onto the plane because they are black...but couldnt you not allow someone on the plane because of their expression? How often do you see a nudist on a plane naked? not often if not ever? perhaps they descided that was something they did not want on their plane and told the passenger to take it off and put something else on, and the passenger said no, so the aircraft people came and kicked her out...the media leaves out a lot of information dont they? When the woman sues, she could be completly leaving out the fact that the airport workers would compromise on her changing her clothes. This could be the problem right?

Even if there is freedom of speech or freedom of expression, isnt there the right to dislike the expression or speech?

hmm, i just got back from my grandmas and thought of this, if the airplane people think its public nudity, then it is public nudity....remember that freedom of expression and freedom of speech have their limitations.

Yes...but still, it is against the law to walk around in a public airline area naked.

Wearing an offending shirt isn't.

I would say that there is a 99.99999999% chance that the guy should have been kicked in the nuts and told to get over it

at schools they can tell you what you can and cannot do, and its public schools. If a parent noticed that you were wearing something like a couple having sex on your shirt, they can call the police and have you removed. There are laws against profanity in public.

Why can you get arrested for streaking? its profane and not many people like it. If your wearing something in public that someone doesnt like, they can do something about it.

it is also a profanity not taken lightly. Infact, a kid went streaking at my school durring a football game(freshman). he got expelled from the school district entirely. he has to go to the next valley over to go to school. and there he has no friends and he has to start life over becaue he was streaking. Now do you think that the people that had him kicked outta the district thought that was freedom of expression or freedom of speech?
