Robots

Well the scientists suspect by 2040 we will have robots which can practically do anything a human being can. But then again will humans be overruled by the robots?

I think many people will suffer because of this and i think one day even the Top jobs will be taken over by robots. Its pretty much a good way to seal our fate. But i also think, its nothing that shouldnt happen.

But one thing other than just having robots is making robots. And everyone overestimates when these things will take place. If any of you ever watched the Jetsons before, well that show takes place in 2000. Weird. So sadly i dont think its gonna happen that early but its probably gonna happen sometimes not far away.

That would be scary...Robots ruling the world. That's what probably will happen beacuse like in the movie, "I, Robot" Robots develop their own personality. I'm just saying that it could happen so I don't really like the idea of robots. Just robots to help us with our daily lives like the people who really need it like the people who live in Africa and India.

Eventually robots will get AI and take over the world. If they put some kind of metal around them where bullets didnt touch them, of course melee cant touch them, are we ganna bomb them one by one? and if we do what if they just get bombs as well. They will be super human killers.

Robots..hmm.... I'm pretty sure...scientists and engineeras will make it perfectly safe..and movies just fill ur minds with bazzare imaginations and make you think what they want.....honestly...think about it....you think scientists would'nt take into consideration them getiing more intel. then b4 and get smarter and smarter? im quite sure they have everything under control

The thing about the predictions from the Jetsons is that they really couldnt predict what would happen because they hadnt been working with robotics and AI for long enough to start a time line. The way they got the 2040 Figure is that robots now have the AI of a cricket or somthing like that. They figured how much smarter we are than the cricket and then compared it to how long its taken to get to the cricket. They also predicted that every 10 years a huge jump in the Robotics/AI field will happen

Well they are saying every ten years robots get twice as smart. So its gonna quickly move up the chain. By 2010 they are predicting they will have the same intelligence of a mouse. But remember these are still predictions. But I think when it comes down to it, we are gonna be pretty useless if the robots have thinking capabilities that can match us. I bet they will be far more efficient in doing anything we are able to do, and they will cost alot less money.

Yea im thinkin the scientists should stop with the improvements when they get to the part when they can think about how much better they are than us. yea i dont think that would be to good

Yeah, thats something I have never found out about. But i dont think the earlier forms will be able to do anything that sopisticated, but eventually i think they will be able to do it also.

The whole idea of AI kinda baffles me. I understand every little transister on my computer...and of most other kind of machines and I just don't understand how that would be possible.

Typically, you're just creating a baby. It's the same way with cloning. They have their similarities if you think about it closely enough.

Hopefully, the movies have warned us enough so that we don't have a Terminator incident or I,Robot.

That would suck if we did, but I would be ok, because nobody harms the Goderator.

Well, i don't think we are gonna see it in our life times, unless they create some fountain of youth type substance. We might see some earlier form of money or mouse robots but thats it i think. But there are always people who will mistakenly create something far ingenious than they originally thought, and that one accident will take over the world. ;-P

Robots will never take over the earth and, they will never be able to do the exact shiz we do till around 2300 most likely. I mean, sure they will be able to do abunch of stuff... But not run us out of our jobs and, if they did, you think that these business' could afford such things? They would be spending most of their wealth on the robots and would lose everything if the robot messed up...

And if they could do everything we could do, everyone would just become a technician or militarist, computers to create programs for robots, sports entertainment, software creators for computers, car's(robot's couldn't do that in my opinion, they would dent alot of the shiz up and they would really need to be programmed very well...) So basically, I cannot see them taking over all our jbos...

Robots are a very very hard topic to discuss. I remember when deep blue, the chess computer programmed for 1 single purpose (to play chess) and played Garry Kasparov, the Chess Champion. When Deep Blue won, I remember people pondering the question "Will computer eventually take over humans with everything?" Yet I just think, did deep blue have to drive home, think about what it did wrong, think about it's kids or having to work the next day?

Could a computer tell you why a failed marriage happened? Or how to manage a hockey team? There were years of developement that went into deep blue, and just to play chess, much along the way was just failure.

So my thoughts, could an imperfect creature program another imperfect creation that would try to attain to perfection by programming a perfect machine? Doubtful in my mind, I'm having a hard enough time thinking Windows can stay stable with a simple code before it'll tell me whats going wrong with my friends and who they are marrying.

I'll look around for a bit, but I remember an article that stated the worlds most powerful computer had the intelligence comparable to a snail. Are those scientists who say robots will rule the world in 2040 the same ones who say "butter is good for you, cell phones decrease sperm count, bannana's are bad for you" one week then reverse the opinion the next week? (Sorry for that troll comment on the last paragraph, but I'm finding scientists to be more attention whores than girls at the bar).

Why people would create robots that have intelligence comparable to a human is beyond me. Robots taking over the world is probably not going to happen. You'd need to program something that causes the robot to want to exterminate humanity for some reason. The most useful robots wouldn't be accidentally, but would be doing housework, in factory jobs or something of that nature. Like what other people said in the thread, the AI of robots today is rather miniscule compared to those in I,Robot. It'll be hundreds of years until there will be robots like in I,Robot. Besides, unless someone programs a Nazibot, robots taking over the world isn't feasible.

well, they say all the information in the world doubles every 7 years, so soon our information will be doubled, and then in another 7 years, doubled again
we already have basic robots that can recognise faces etc
imagine what they will be like in 2040.
i dont think it will be likely that they will take over,
because obviously we are all paranoid of that fact, so we would probably be careful and keep them under control.

God created man/life. Through man/life sin came to his lovely world and now its not so lovely... And when sinners create life, imagine what will come from what began from the GREAtest of all things to people who do bad things, (c'mon we all did a heck lot of bad things in are life....) to create another thing... imagine what these robots can do....

it went from 0 bad things to A LOT, thats a big rise... now from A LOT to ???? think...

do we really want robots?

they will be doing everythign for us.... they wil lbe our slaves.... and thus we made ourselves useless. Say we had robots doing everyhitng for us for decades..... then one say they all die or sumthing.... will we know how to survive?
