I barely pass most of the languages on the list exept english and Russian. | But Russian is your own language. Yes usually there are such grammer classes in the primary school which are required. Anyway you cant add your own language in your CV.
Unfortunately we, from Eastern Europe have Russian as foreign lanuage . I prefer to have French or German than Russian. Ive studied Russian for 7 years and I suck compared to my English. This lanuage has difficult grammar and because French, English and Spanish are among the most popular languages nowadays, they dont study Russian in USA or in Western Europe. |

I believe that either English or Spanish hold that title. Either way, I'm forced to do two years of a foreign language, and I really don't mind it. It will expan my horizons and I can put it on my buisiness applications.

| I took latin for 3 years, cuz that's all the school I went to taught. It's not taught much but is, like logic, or law, a very useful thing to know in real life.

| I had to take spanish I though but I did poorly. one of my teachers stopped teaching 2/3 of the way through the course and lots of people didn't do well.
I should have taken German. German is useful for chemists. Latin is useful for biology majors. Russion is probably useful for physics majors.
The problem I have is if they refuse to get quality educators then there isn't going to be anyone learning those languages well.

| I had to take one language in Year 7, and my sister now has to take two....
The options available to me were French and Malay. For my sister French, Malay, Spanish and Mandarin. But most Universities, from what I hear, want a foreign language as default. Learning another language other than English, believe it or not, looks good on your résumé.
Malaysians, on the other hand, HAD to take Malay as it is a government requirement. I believe all countries that do not use English as their first language but use it anyway require it.
Remember, adding another tongue for your own knowledge always helps because you can study higher education in a larger variety of places.

| I didn't/don't have to take language classes(With the exception of english). We have "Program finishers"...Either Language, Tech, or Career Development....
Though in my final year(Next) I will have finished the language and tech finishers...and the language one twice. Spanish and Latin.

| I know it isn't much to yankes, but if you live on the continent it is vital. When you say forced you make it sound like a bad thing, STFU and cope with it, next we're going to have people complaining about doing math -.- |

and I don't think learning a second language is a horrible thing, is it a major bitch? yea it is, but can it provide lots of opportunities that could be to your benefit.

| You know, English is also a foreign language in the USA. So, you are complaning about learning foreign languages on School, but said nothing about learning it on home. Yes, this was sarcasm. http://www.usconstitution.net/consttop_lang.html
Either way, it's not THAT hard to learn a foreign language, and it can be usefull. And I also hope that english will be the international language, and it is not my native language. Not only it is a very easy language, and thus every freakazoid can learn it, but it's also the language of science and technology, and it could stop some wars. Though the last one is with a little doubt. |
