Christmas Hype..

Oh its Chrismas Time!

Do you think its a complete utter waste of money at christmas time?
What do you think christmas is really all about?
is it Christ related or a holiday season?

It's ****ing fun, who cares? People find stupid ways to spend their money year round, though concentrate on spending it on others this time of the year.

i dont reckon everyone finds it fun.. it reckon lots of ppl find it a complete nightmare!
and i definately know (cause i work in one around this season) that shopping centres are WAY MORE RIDICULOUSLY PACKED with ppl and trolleys full of commercial crap.
its crazy...

however, the giving theme is centred.. which is cool... but is it necessary?
is there a better way to give at christmas?

There's always a better way, though what specifically is wrong with Christmas other than the blatant consumerism?

from what i've seen, christ is often left out of christmas, but thats not so much of a surprise....material possesions have the ability to separate families, why not christ from christmas?

its all about self satisfaction.....even in giving you get something out of it yourself

The holiday itself is pretty much secular today, other than for the very religious.

We are a consumerist culture, period. It's been a long time since anyone had to actually fight for survival. Even the homeless are doing amazing.

Christmas is fine. Honestly it's kinda nice to set aside a day where it's family centered and you give each other presents. I don't care if that makes me a consumer, or if i'm conforming, because i like to do it.

To society today, Christmas is all about the presents, the giving and hell even the food. It is the anniversary of the birth of Jesus, but that doesn't mean we can't celebrate and give. Admittedly we all can get caught up in it all and lose sight of what's more important, but i'd hate it if Christmas just felt like "any other day". I like the decorations, i like Christmas trees and i like the atmosphere and i'd hate it if that changed.

You and me both. I pretty much spend a pay check -- maybe more on presents because I love to see peoples faces when I gave them a great gift. Yes I know i could make presents but I do not have the time. College and work consume my life.

I also like Christmas because everyone seems to be in a more generous mood. Also great to spend time with family. This year I finally get a real Christmas tree to decorate. Gonna be fun.

Christmas can be ****ing awesome in Wisconsin. Snowy night, moon all a glow, family/friends house for a seasonal party. > anything.
Even though I'm not really Christian anymore, I still believe Christmas is Christ oriented; and should be.

One thing that pisses me off however is having Christmas crap up before or RIGHT after Thanksgiving. I know T-day isn't the biggest, but give it its dues.

Christmas is fine, but it is too commercialized and capitalistic.

Thanksgiving is like the good form of Christmas. Cause at least there, you don't give your loved ones presents and hope they don't get pissed off at you and hate you for the rest of your life.

And the whole notion of Santa was created so that boys and girls would learn to be nice to others, so that thier good deeds would be rewarded, Stewie in the Family Guy Christmas special pretty much explained some of this.

I agree. people set up Christmas lights before thanksgiving and malls and other stores such as walmart put out Christmas stuff before thanksgiving has even past.

Santa was a dumb idea, just threaten to beat the **** outta your kids if they don't behave, simple as that.

They talk back, give them a swift backhand across the face.

Yea, I use to get beatings from my dad when I misbehaved. I for one think corporal punishment should be used more often on old and young generations alike. As for Santa, I think its a good incentive for young kids to do well in school and behave. Thanks to Christmas, a lot of retail stores make their quota or whatever you would like to call it.

The problem with some parents is that they are too forgiving. I was beaten a few times, but then they stopped cause either A) I learned my lesson or B) Child Abuse wasn't the best idea in the world.

Child abuse my ass, whenever I did something wrong, I was regretting I did it, cause I knew I was gettin my ass beat because of it, so now I'm a good person and stay out of trouble. That is why you beat your kids, makes them know the consequence for being bad.
