Da vinci Code

Has anyone here read it yet? What were your thoughts as you read through it? I am still currently reading it and cant help but question the bible. For instance did Jesus have sexual relations with Mary Magdaline? Did they infact have a child and create a royal bloodline. Was mary instruced by Jesus to carry on with his works and establish the church? Ill stop there just to get things started. Others may also post serious thoughts even if they havnt read it.

Then I did read it I had the same thoughts, It added in very well with my atheistic mindset and it was pretty good actually, but then I did some extra research and the book is in fact almost purely fiction. The Bible was still assembled in 300 AD to keep Byzantine Empire going, thats all I can think that was true in that book, the priory of sion infact was a scum created by some french guy in the 60s...definitely finish the book and enjoy it but if you wanna go for factual information on how church is corrupt and god doesn't exist you'll need to read something else, look around not that hard to find.

Does one believe fiction, even if well-researched?

Well-researched fiction plus good storytelling makes for a good novel. But there is a good point being made here - if Jesus had a girlfriend, would that really be a problem?*

Yea I know its a Fiction but I cant help but think about it. There were more books so to say to be place in the bible but why were they not included? The bible also had to be translated into different languages.... well all know that a story is never told the same by different people. Therefore who is to say things could have been add and or taken out. Iv also taken a look at DA Vinci's paintings which were interesting. The last supper -- how the book describes the figure sitting at the right hand of Jesus to be Mary and how they make the V. If anything this book has made me more intrigued about Christianity.

It was a good story, bad history textbook.

I've actually been to some of the locations and he made a ton of stuff up... for instance there's no "Star of David path" at Rosslyn Cathedral. Also many of the things he claimed are completely fictitious...

I'm not saying I believe the bible either (I don't) but this certainly isn't factual. I thought it was a good read though.

Eh hem "Fiction"

Anyways, there was a documentary on this topic... didn't really have much of book's content, but it went on its own style.. interesting show, the only thing I remember from it is that bunch of bishops gathered and voted that JEsus should be son of the God in the bible..

Indeed, it would change the whole aspect of Jesus, but would it be a problem?

If Jesus was a loving father and caring husband, surely he would be more highly revered?

I don't know if the Bible mentions explicitly if Jesus was chaste. But it doesn't seem to mention he is married (which, of course, doesn't imply if he is married or not).*
