The New 7 Wonders of the World

Today in Portugal (TrongaLand) the seven new wonders of the world were announced:

• The Great Wall of China

• Petra in Jordan

• Brazil's statue of Christ the Redeemer

• Peru's Machu Picchu

• Mexico's Chichen Itza pyramid

• The Colosseum in Rome

• India's Taj Mahal

The article can be seen here.

Does this list seem right to you? Or do you think something should/shouldn't be there?

The 7 wonders of the ancient world is what really bedazzles me. However, this is a great list. See no problems with it. But some of them are repeats.

Theres gigantic statues of Buddha everywhere in Asia, why arent they great wonders of the world?

Yeah.. some of them arent as appealling, but then again I could careless ~_~ There are many wonders around the world, and I don't think it is possible to restrict the number down to 7.

Even New York's Statue of Liberty would be more appealing than the Statue of Christ Redeemer.

To be honest, it sucked, because it's a democratic vote of a cultural issue. Most people around the world have no culture whatsoever.

All right, almost everyone in the world is oblivious of worldwide culture but their own.

people are dumb. i found out since i first heard metal. how can anyone listen to **** on tv when there is better music from skilled musicians out there? people voted for the ****tiest presidents in recent times etc.

the fact is, most people are so blissfully ignorant of morality/manners/culture/society/everything while always seeking ways to satisfy their greed.

as far as i can see, the only three worthy wonders are the bottom 3. maybe the macchu picchu. the great wall is gay. ****ing who cares about that **** wall? people only visit it because they are ****ing stupid. the ****ing petra is ****. ive been there. its ****. the statue of christ the redeemer is a maybe as well. you see, it is a cultural icon for christians and one of the few statues of jesus where hes not on the cross dieing. the bad thing about it is that its a normal statue and no more culturally significant than the statue of liberty.

There's one exactly equal in Lisbon (Portugal), why wasn't it voted? Because the Brazilian government made a campaign to get all brazilians to vote for that statue. That's why.

And it's not all about culture, you know. It's also about the effort. I guarantee you that the Great Wall and Petra were made by so many a slave it's quite the effort.

What. The. Christ..?!

This list has no worth. Those "wonders" were chosed based on popularity. As such, you cannot argue against them anymore than you can argue against a TV show based on rating.

but you have to remember that those 'new 7 wonders' were shaved down from hundreds by judges. the judges decreed that its too hard to pick the rest and gave it over to popularity.

or am i mistaken?

It is indeed true, however, that there's far more wonders in the world than just seven...

that is indeed true as well. the "seven wonders" title is just an attention attractor so that a certain country/place can become tourist hotspots.

some of those 'wonders' are seriously pathetic. you cant trust the majority of the people to think for themselves and not just go on a trendwhore spree.
