| The Elegant Universe. Has anyone else read this book (or seen the PBS show)?
I really enjoyed it, if you are at all interested in the string theory, I suggest you read it. Anyways, what are you opinions and/or views on the string theory? |

| Yes, I've read it. And Yes I've seen it. Its all about gravity. We think we know what it does, but I don't think we do. As for how strings play their part and hoe fancy mathematics work couldn't tell ya'. I've never gone into serious math like that save for watching other people do it. lol

| It all seems to fit, but then again, there are so many theories and it is difficult to prove which one is correct (but it looks pausible). I think string theory is probably the most accurate, though, but I could come up with a potato theory some day that fits as well. We will probably never know if it is right or not, though.* |

| Well, the amazing thing about string theory is that the mathematics behind it works, (let's ignore the fact that when it stops working, the physicists jsut add another dimension to the math and it works again)
its mind boggling to think that we're just part of an infinitely cascading series of universes, representing the sum totaly of all possible outcomes for all possible situations...
i recorded the series, and it's good mental masturbation to break it out every once in a while and gape at the possibilities.

| I see string theory as yet another theory, paralleling yet every other theory meant to explain the universe's construction. I, myself, am skeptical about the existence of either sparticles or dark matter to explain all the stuff out there we can't see. Too much time and effort is haphazardly thrown into all of these highly unorthodox theories... we could be spending more of our resources on more important matters, like the colonization of the moon and Mars. At times like these, where science programs are having their funding cut left and right, we need to start allocating the time and money that we have and focusing on what we need done and discovered rather than what we want done and discovered. Let's say that we discover that everything in the universe is, in fact, composed of tiny strings. That'd be great. Yet, as interesting as such a discovery would be, it wouldn't be enough to keep astronauts sane on their expedition to Mars. And if we don't start expanding soon, we're going to run out of minerals and gas and then we'll be completely screwed. |
