Abercrombie And Fitch Racism

Once my favorite store, now one of my most hated.

I applied there to get the position to become a store model for christmas time. Basically, you get to stand there and model their clothes for the holidays as people walk by. So anyway, I sent in a resume for it, which included the previous jobs and places where I have modeled at. I did not recieve any phone call or anything. Yeah, sad story.

Anywho, I didn't get it, with my resume which included previous modeling jobs. I went in there and asked the girl who was standing where I should be how she got the job and where she has been previously. "This is my first time doing anything like this! I really think its cool". I got beat out by some amateur first timer who has no experience. She was blonde, shorter than me, with blue eyes.

If any of you have been inside Abercrombie and Fitch, you'll notice all their "models" and most of their employee's are white, blonde hair, with blue eyes. I did not get this job because I am mixed, my hair is not blonde, and my eyes certainly are not blue.

There have been these several cases about their racism about hiring people who are anything but white, saying they don't have "The look". This is exactly what modeling isn't. Modeling is about getting a unique look, one that no one else has. Being full and energetic, not the same along with the other blonde hair blue eyes.

Their male models are the basic football loving one hair away from being gay models, blonde hair blue eyes. Not to mention the male clothes are something a woman could fit into. Their clothes are so tiny its outragious.

Abercrombie has been sued many times due to their biased hiring, and I just witnessed it first hand. My hair may not be blonde, my eyes may not be blue, and my skin may not be white, but I am by far better looking than some model they can pick up here.


Its the most racist store I've ever seen and yet everyone loves them. Ideas, thoughts, comments?

They have the right to not hire people for any reason. Would a white male go into a chinese food restaurant expecting a job as a waiter, who the rest of them are all chinese females?

Of course you wont get hired if you dont have the look. Considering about 90 percent of Abercrombies costumers are white, of course theyll try to focus on the white people.

But Abercrombie is not only not hiring non white people, but putting them in the back to work over night. Its not right at all and it is discrimination, no matter how you put it.

Don't even start, please. And I didn't get my job at Game Stop because I'm a quater Russian and didn't put it down on my app.? Its people that bring up race that are the racists. Stores can hire who they want, and you shouldn't make the government do your bidding for you. So you didn't get the job? Big deal? Teardrop? That's life hunny, you can't always get what you want. Even if you think you should.

At one of the fast food stores that are up in Greenbay, most of the workers can't speak english. Let me tell you, they are worth crap. You can't have them take orders, you can't have them listen through headsets; they don't know english, so where can you put them? Some people just shouldn't be hired for some jobs.

As for you not getting hired, you have my sympathy but please. Its not because they are racist.

but I am by far better looking than some model they can pick up here.

Really, not to be mean, but,again, that is really a personal call. I can say the same thing about myself.

Stores can hire who they want for what reasons. They aren't being forced to work in the back either. They could just as easily quit their job.

Not only do I not want to work at abercrombie, but I will not buy any more of their things. Its not the fact that I didnt get the job, I can get something alot bigger and better than this, its the fact that they dont support any races but white.

You are comparing workers who can speak english, can process english thoughts, and had english as a first language to a group of people who lived elsewhere on the globe. There is nothing wrong with them workwise except acording to Abercrombie, their skin color.

I don't think I am and there are prettier women out there and she was not one of them. She had less experience and was the same size as me, just shorter, with blonde hair and blue eyes. Honestly, if you saw a resume with past modeling experience vs someone who had no experience, you wouldn't pick someone who doesn't know what they are doing.

Their was a class action law suit for A & F in NYC.
The owner has admitted openly that the clothing is made for white men and woman, who are "naturally visually attractive then others".

Same goes for Tommy Hilfigger, he is a open racist that said almost the same thing on the ohpra show.

Besides, modeling isnt that hard, all you have to do is change and look good in what you are wearing.

And just as it is America, you are entitled to your own beliefs [within some standard], and as it is their store they are allowed to hire who the want and for what purpose. It'd be another story if White people had to work there as models and black people had to work there in the back, but they don't. They damn well knew when they applied for the job what'd they'd be getting into.

Blonde hair blue eyes is pertty much the ideal look in modeling. Especially at a store like Abercrombie.

O well, I still like their clothes and they have good jeans. They are a little on the expensive side though.

I agree with Venice for the most part. Most of the time, I support a business's right to choose who they want as employees for whatever reason. It's their store. Forcing standards and quotas (Which has already occured in different forms, most notably affirmative action) essentially ebbs the control over a company by the owners and gives more power to the government.

At the same time, though, I can sympathize with Heather. The reason we have affirmative action is because there are social consequences when one race dominates the entire market and only hires people that fit the bill, such as crime.

It's a difficult issue. Most people are too eager to support one side, which is especially sad since this issue doesn't have any clear-cut resolution. Since I don't have the rationale of Socrates, or the ability to predict all of the long-term consequences of decisions made in relation to this area, I can't really give a solid answer.

IMO, the only people that make race an issue are those who look for an excuse. Everyone knows how "blacks" were slaves, and were killed and beaten in the early years of modern soicety. Almost never has any asian complained, or constantly brings up the fact that 35% more asians died under slavery. Or that in the south when blacks were underway to freedom, asians, native americans, middle easterners, ect. were still looked upon as lower class and as slaves in some cases.

Heather I do understand why you are upset just on the experience in that field alone, but, it could very well be one of the workers friends, or family. Who knows. To base your desission that they are "racist" based on someone else getting hired is infact childish.
So you didn't get hired, is that the end of the world? I hope not because that would mean you are shallow. Selfish, I can believe, but shallow I don't see you as, who knows maybe I'm wrong.

Okay if you know nothing about modeling don't speak about it.

Modeling is not "oh look, blonde hair and blue eyes, lets get her!". Modeling is about finding unique-ness, not finding the same Blonde hair and blue eyes. They want something different, something to set the trend.

Abercrombie may want the basic blue eyed blonde haired people, but in the professional word of modeling, they are examples of "normal" people.
