Got to love that handy positioning of the watch eh? The mask design makes sense though, bulletproof glass is heavy and its kind of hard to treat something with kevlar and keep it clear enough to see through, thus if he used actual Spartan type helmet, to make the faceshield bulletproof would make it excessively heavy, something you don't want. Its probably made of kevlar padded plastic, good enough to stop shrapnel, nothing like some of the heavier helmets like the one used by Russian spetsnaz, it weighs about 3 kgs, has a clear bullet-proof glass face shield that can stop a 9 mil pistol round point blank, you can only use it 30 minutes at a time though, most people get too tired after that.
In any case, this isn't about how it looks (infact for something that supposedly wants to one day be military grade it looks kinda fancy), this is about if it is effective or not, which we might find out if this guy gets enough donations and does a live test against an IED. As in he is going to wear it and set off an IED near him, he is either crazy (most likely) or really smart. It might actually work depending on the charge, he uses bullet proof foamr to protect his torso, arms and legs which can stop a buckshot pointblank, thus it would make sense against shrapnel...there is still exposed areas though which could screw him over if a piece of shrapnel gets in there. Actually come to think of it thats a major short coming.
Here is another one about this thing:
