| Fear is obviously a good way to make things happen for you. If someone fears you, they'll probably do what you say, depending on the degree of fear. Love can also do the same thing. Fear might get you a lot in a short time, but it'll collapse eventually (Under most circumstances). Love will probably not give people the same intense "motivation" as fear does, but it'll probably last longer.
Example: I love my sister, so I don't mind doing favors for her, but I probably won't do anything she says.
I fear Azrael, so I'll probably be his bitch because I don't want him to rape me.
So, you should embrace both ends of the spectrum.
