| u mean the story in the manual or the game story?
the story in the manual is pretty much inthe d2 manual.
as for the story in d1....
lets see
you start off as one of our favorit heroes, rogue, warrior, mage.
theres the cain guy, theres pepin or the monk that heals you, and theres wirt, witch lady with purple hair, and the inn owner, griswold the guy who repairs your stuff.
you start off with a lame spell that either heals your weap durability at the cost of minus over all dura, mana heal at the cost of overall mana, and picklock.
anyhow you see a guy at the door of the monastery next to the cow farm. anyhow this guy says that he is dying and that it was because king leoric got pissed that his son disappeared but first there is this butcher you must defeat.
our heroes trek down to the underground evil place.
it is dark and creepy and the whole place is overrun with demons.
you fight bravely until you find the buthcer. you run around because he's so effin fast and chases you but because of preserverence you win and you get your reward, a unique butchers cleaver.
then theres this zombie guy, he gives you a quest
i forgot what it was.
anyhow down to leorics tomb. you find the skeleton king leoric. slay him.
finally you trek down and find your first quest tomb, the guardian. you get the tome and you learn guradian.
anyhow at this time you are experienced and there is a short cut to the deeper parts of the crypt near the cows, called catacombs.
travel down there. do a couple quests, kill uniques etc. etc.
finally you are now a hero of the village since you found the inn's sign and return it to the innkeeper.
with these new powers you were rewarded with, a new opening opens next to wirts place. wirt is the guy that sells overpriced items (second only to the girl who sells tomes)
you go into the mountain caverns, this is where the demons are stronger than ever.
you finally discover lazarus, the archbishop of the town was behind all of this crap.
you defeat him but its too late. the prince id dead.
you find lachnadan who is cursed knight because of ventruing down here. you find him his potion to cure his curse and he thanks you.
finally you go down, it turns out there diablo was behind all this sinither evil.
open the seals and fight him
kill him
you get a cinematic
one of the heroes decides the only way to contain diablo is by having an eternal soul battle with him. so the warrior takes the soulstone and puts it into his brain. hopefully his strength and will can conquer diablo soul from taking over as he travels to a place where he could prolly either destroy the stone or something.
and thats where diablo 2 begins. the warrior of course couldn't make it, and diablo takes over.
