| Most school sports are a waste of time. I joined the football team hoping to get a little bit more trim, but the majority of the time was spent memorizing worthless plays and getting "pumped". Now that was a big waste of time.
That was in the 9th grade. The only school sport that I find worth doing is swimming, since form and technique also improve along with endurance simultaneously. Also, if you do bother to improve your technique, you're efficiency also increases, whereas in football, most of the time you run.. and running isn't as complicated as swimming, which doesn't allow much room for improvement.
I usually also prefer "extreme sports" if you can call them that. I snowboard every week, which is a workout if you go down the slope about fifteen times nonstop.
I also waterski every weekend during the summer, and if you've ever slalomed on a single ski, its a great workout for your forearms and your quads. As a bonus, it's also a good way to pick up chicks ^_^;.
